상트르주 셰르현 부르주 출생.

어릴 때부터 그림을 좋아하여 J.B.C.코로의 지도를 받았으나,

마네를 알게 되면서 인상파 화가들과 교제하였으며,

1874년에 시작된 인상파 그룹전(展)에 처음부터 참가하였다.

그후 1886년의 제8회전까지, 제4회전(1879)을 빼고 매회 출품하였다.


1874년, 마네의 동생 우젠과 결혼하였으며,

《발콩》 《휴식》 등에서 자주 마네의 작품모델이 되었다.

모리조의 작품은 코로의 감화를 받은 초기의 풍경화로부터

차차 인상파의 밝은 색조로 바뀌어갔으며,

집 안팎의 가정적 정경이나 정물화를 자유롭고 경쾌한 필치로 그려,

섬세하고 감미로운 감각을 나타내었다.


수채화에도 뛰어나서 유화 못지않은 경쾌하고 멋있는 가작들을 남겼다.
